Scoring of Objective Classroom Tests
The results of the scoring of objective classroom tests include the following information:
- Alphabetical class listing with individual percentage scores and number of items right, incorrect, omitted and correct minus 1/4 incorrect.
- Item analysis with frequency of students selecting each response to an item, mean percent correct, mean percent incorrect, percentage of students who responded correctly and incorrectly, point biserial correlation coefficient and discrimination index.
- Grade distribution with mean and standard deviation, frequency and cumulative frequency of percentage scores and percentiles.
- Z Score - indicates how many standard deviations a score is above or below the mean (symbolized by + and -)
- T Score - a converted Z score used to convert scores that are negative, fractional or both. The T score can be expressed as 10z + 50.
- ETS Score - a converted Z score used to convert scores that are negative, fractional or both. It is used by the Educational Testing Service and can be expressed as 100z + 500.
- Deviation IQ - a converted Z score used to convert scores that are negative, fractional or both. The Deviation IQ can be expressed as 15z + 100.
- Reliability measures with odd-even, first-half last-half, Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 and standard error of measurement.
- Graph of distribution of percentage scores.
- Individual Student Reports which include the instructor's name; each student's name and identification number; number of items right, wrong and omitted; and listing of wrong items indicating student responses and keyed responses.
Summarizing Questionnaires and Surveys
Analysis of data includes frequency and percentage of each response for every item as well as a mean, standard deviation and correlation for each item. An overall test mean and standard deviation is also listed. Information for each individual examinee includes total score (for Likert scales), mean and number omitted.
Accepted Forms and Report Formats
The Testing Center provides scanning and scoring services to the university. The office uses a Scantron Insight 700c scanner for which Scantron form 4521 is compatible. We cannot guarantee that Scantron forms not made by Scantron or NCS Pearson will be scannable by the machine. For example the 4521 forms sold by TestingForms.com (which have this web address on the back and does not bear the Scantron logo) have incorrect instructions for where the data is found on the form, making the top 1/3 of the form unreadable by the scanning machine (as of 4/26/2023).
All reports will be sent via email in both PDF and text format. Forms are available from the University Bookstore and current Georgia State University vendors via department purchase.
Scan Forms Should be Delivered to the Following Locations:
Counseling Center and Testing Center, Front Desk
75 Piedmont Avenue, NE., Suite 200A
Office Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
Instructions
Please follow these instructions when submitting forms for scanning:
- Each submission should be placed in a large envelope with an instruction sheet taped to the outside of the envelope.
- Please download the Scanning and Test Scoring Request Form for a copy of the instruction sheet.
- Each group of scan forms must have a key coded according to preferences. Examples can be obtained through the Testing office in the Counseling and Testing Center. All scan forms should be arranged so that the tick marks are facing the same way.
- Those who wish to pick up the completed score reports themselves should indicate that on the form and tell the person in the Counseling and Testing Center to make a note of it in the logbook. This will prevent confusion when graduate assistants pick up for an entire department.
Processing Schedule
Forms delivered and logged in by the office staff by 4:30 p.m. on a regular business day will be ready within 24 business hours (3 work days), although every effort is made to provide reports to instructors as quickly as possible. Completed scans may be picked up only at the Testing Center front desk. Please do not use interoffice mail for requesting exams to be scanned and scored.
